Hi there ! In this post, I am sharing all the informations regarding Post Graduate Entrance Test (PGET) conducted by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) in West Bengal, India, with a special emphasis on M.Tech. CSE. All the informations are taken from the official website of MAKAUT and my experience as I was an aspirant of PGET 2020.
I have divided the post in two parts. In Part-1, I'm discussing about the Exam, Application process, Eligibilty and the steps I was required to follow before PGET 2020 exam. In Part-2, I have discussed in details about CSE paper, difficulty level and the subjects and topics the questions came from. Once I publish the Part-2, you'll get the link here and below as well.
About the Exam
MAKAUT conducts PGET for the admission in M.Tech. and M.Pharm. courses affiliated to MAKAUT. The courses are offered in affiliated colleges and in the home campus of MAKAUT at Haringhata. You can find the list of courses offered
here. To be eligible in the examination, the candidate has to be an Indian Citizen and must hold an AICTE approved Bachelor's degree i.e. B.Tech./B.E./B.Arch./MCA/B.Pharm. degree. Candidates having M.Sc. degree in relevant field(s) are also eligible. Each course is having different eligibility criteria and therefore I would suggest you to check the requirement of the course you want to pursue before you apply.
Coming to M.Tech. CSE, aspirants can apply under two categories - GATE and Non-GATE. Both candidates are required to sit for PGET and the qualified candidates (both categories) are needed to appear for a Personal Interview. But the shortlisting is done based on only PGET score for Non-GATE candidates and for the GATE qualified candidates (with valid GATE score), proportionate weightage is given to GATE score. For breaking ties, Secondary and Higher Secondary marks are considered.
PGET 2020
The registration for PGET 2020 started from 13th August 2020 and the last date of filling the application, payment of application fees and submission of the same was 3rd September 2020. First, I was asked to register myself on PGET 2020
admission portal with my Email id, Name, Date of birth and the paper code I wanted to appear for. I chose CSE as I wanted to pursue M.Tech. in CSE. After selection of paper, there was an option (for your reference) to see the courses that you can pursue by qualifying the specified paper. For CSE, it was 14 including all the in-house courses and courses offered in affiliated colleges.
The application fee for General candidates were 600 INR. After payment of the application fee, I was asked to enter more details such as my current address, address of residence, details of my Graduation, Secondary and Higher Secondary Exam etc. I was asked to fill up the preferred choices of the institutions at the time of application. I gave my choices in the order of preference. You can find the updated list of affiliated colleges
here.
Due to COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown, this year I was asked if I want to appear for the test from home or from an examination centre. I chose to appear from my home. In this case, the examination was an online proctored exam of one hour duration. The total number of questions were 50. Being an online proctored exam, I had to check my laptop's webcam, microphone and also the internet connectivity because for the next 1 hour, a live streaming of my activities was supposed to be visible to a remote (online) proctor.
